VPN Access for POIs
Dear HR Liaisons,
The Office of Information Technology recently discovered that virtual private network (VPN) access was accidentally assigned to the person of interest (POI) electronic research administrator (eRA) type affiliation. As a result, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, VPN access will be terminated for those with a POI eRA affiliation. This POI type is granted access to the InfoEd service only and that access will be unaffected by this change. Those eRA POIs who have access to the VPN through another active affiliation with CU Boulder will maintain VPN access.
In the coming weeks, we will only email the eRA POIs who have used the VPN in the past three months; currently, 132 people. If one of these POIs does not have access to the VPN via another campus affiliation but needs access for business reasons, our messaging will suggest they contact their HR liaison. If they meet the requirements to be a POI type C, which does have VPN access, you may want to change their POI type to that type as an alternative. As a reminder, you can find more information about POI types and their access to campus services on the POI HCM Records Practices webpage.
In summary:
Supervisors of the affected POIs will be notified of this change in early January 2025.
An email reminder will be sent to HR Liaisons and Supervisors at the end of January 2025.
Emails to affected POIs will be sent at the beginning of February.
VPN access will be removed for eRA POIs on Wednesday, February 19.
If you have questions about this change, please contact the IT Service Center at oithelp@colorado.edu or 303-735-4357.
Thank you,
Office of Information Technology
