General Psychology
Dr. Jennifer Schwartz
General Education: Natural Science & A&S MAPS course

This is a prerequisite for other psychology courses.

Course Description:

This course surveys major topics in psychology: sensation & perception, development, personality, learning & memory, psychopathology, and biological bases of behavior, as in the case of other sections of General Psychology. However, this version of General Psychology focuses to a greater extent on connections among these different categories of phenomena, as well as overarching theoretical themes. Class sessions are primarily devoted to thinking about psychological concepts, rather than memorizing dates and definitions.

Students are largely responsible for familiarizing themselves with course material through textbook reading, online questions, and other online assignments. Participation in ongoing research conducted on campus is also integrated into class as a preparatory activity. Over half of class time is devoted to applying and thinking about psychological concepts through discussion, questionnaire research, and participation in class activities.
