The Cell Biology of Metals GRC is a conference that focuses on understanding metal-facilitated processes in cell biology, with topics ranging from metal trafficking and signaling, metals in the enviroment and plant biology, imaging of metal dynamics in biological models (human tissue, yeast, zebrafish, and bacteria), and many more! This year, the GRC was hosted at the Mount Snow Ski Resort in Vermont from July 30th through August 4th. The days consisted of a morning talk session, followed by an afternoon break, a poster session, and an evening talk session. While at the conference, Ana Torres-Ocampo presented a poster titled "Developing a novel chemigenetic zinc sensor for synaptic vesicles" and Daniel Ocampo presented a poster titled "Cellular zinc (Zn2+) status alters chromatin organization and CTCF dynamics" on two separate days. Amy gave a keynote talk titled "Regulation of cell biology by zinc" in which she shared some of our latest data on the role that cellular zinc concentration plays in the mammalian cell cycle! Everyone had a great time at the conference. The venue and weather were lovely and all lab members made academic connections that will last a lifetime. We cannot wait to attend this GRC again in two years!
