Pre-Arrival
Enrollment Deposit
To confirm your acceptance to the LLM program at Colorado Law, you will need to pay our non-refundable $200 seat deposit due by your specified due date. Your $200 seat deposit will be returned to you after you graduate from the LLM program. Information and instructions for the electronic remittance of your seat deposit are emailed to every admitted LLM student.
Alternatively, the $200 seat deposit can be remitted by sending either a check or money order payable to the University of Colorado to the following address:

Student Visa Information
If you received a full admission offer, our Office of International Admissions on main campus will contact you directly with the necessary information, instructions, and documents needed to procure your student visa. International Admissions will provide you with the option to specify your preferred student visa, and we highly recommend requesting the normative F-1 student visa, especially if you hope to take advantage of the Optional Practical Training program which allows for the extension of the F-1 student visa for a post-graduate work opportunity for up to one year. Please pay close attention to your email for all communications from International Admissions.
Conditional Admissions
If you received a conditional admission offer, the International English Center will provide you with information and instructions for the procurement (or transfer) of your initial student visa. Your admission email should specify your requirement to complete either a summer Legal English course or the combination of spring and summer Legal English courses.
You will need to complete your student visa forms with both the International English Center and International Admissions (one is for Legal English and the other for the LLM program) to upgrade your status as a LLM student and have access to various campus resources such as the graduate and family housing application. Ultimately, you will need to transfer your student visa from the International English Center to CU-Boulder's International Admissions department on main campus.
To enroll for your specified Legal English course, please contact the International English Center directly.
Transcripts
The University of Colorado Boulder requires transcripts and award(s) of degree from each and every higher education institution you have attended. If you are finishing your law degree (or any other degree specified in your application) this spring or summer, you MUST submit your final transcripts as soon as they are available. We recommend that you send your completed transcripts to LSAC for final processing. Ultimately, we will request that LSAC send us your official transcripts once they have been evaluated, and we will in turn return the documents to you late in your first semester at Colorado Law.
International Student and Scholar Services Department (main campus)
Review the International Office’s website for new students. It has a plethora of information that you will need, including immigration information, your arrival and check-in, housing, and much more.
Health Requirements
Colorado State Law requires all new students to submit proof of two doses each of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination. This is a mandatory requirement for all college students born on or after January 1, 1957. Please check with your physician, high school, previous university and/or military, to obtain an official signed or stamped copy of your records. If you can't verify your immunizations, you will need to be re-immunized. Hepatitis B and Meningitis vaccines are strongly recommended for new international students, but not required. Medical, religious, and personal exemptions are allowed by law; however, in the event of an outbreak, exempted persons may be subject to quarantine and exclusion from school.
The University requires that all incoming new students complete the New Student Immunization Questionnaire. This has information and questions on meningococcal disease, the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, and Tuberculosis. You can find out more information about this questionnaire at Wardenburg Health Services: New Student Information
New students must submit immunization information by the deadline set by Wardenburg Health Center. This is an important deadline, because you will be assessed a $25 late penalty and a STOP will be placed on your student record (which means you will not be allowed to register for classes) if you neglect to submit immunization records.
Health Insurance
All students are required to have health insurance to cover the cost of medical treatment.
As an international student, it is your responsibility to have health insurance at all times while in the United States. All international students will be automatically enrolled in CU Boulder's Student Gold Health Insurance Plan and billed approximately $1,995 each semester. More info regarding coverage, waiver options, and more can be found here.
NOTE: The fall 2020 Student Gold Health Insurance Plan's coverage will start in mid-August; most international LLM students are required to report to Colorado Law on Monday, August 10th for the start of the Intro to US Law course. There will probably be a discrepancy in coverage dates since the US Law course starts 2 weeks before the formal start of the fall semester, but Colorado Law and Wardenburg Health Services have established a means for purchasing daily coverage prior to the start of the fall semester's insurance plan. To procure health insurance coverage prior to the fall semester's coverage date, international students can do so by contacting the following administrator at Wardenburg Health Services:
Julie Garcia Student Insurance Coordinator
Patient Services
Wardenburg Health Services

PatientServices@colorado.edu
www.colorado.edu/health
Please direct all health insurance and immunization questions to CU-Boulder's Wardenburg Health Services at 303.492.5107. Note that if you do not complete the immunization requirements, Wardenburg will place a hold on your account that will prevent you from enrolling in future semesters.

We recommend that you send your completed transcripts to LSAC for final processing.
Residency Classification
To receive in-state tuition at Colorado Law, your residency application must be approved by main campus. You will be classified as an out-of-state resident and charged the higher rate of tuition if you do not apply or fail to provide all requested information.
Exceptions to the one-year domicile requirement are provided to applicants who meet other criteria that determine eligibility for in-state tuition classification. Details on residency regulations and exceptions are available at CU-Boulder Office of the Registrar. Please direct your questions to the Office of the Registrar directly at tuitclass@colorado.edu or (303) 492-6970.
Your residency status for the upcoming year can be viewed on the Application Status Page. If you believe your residency status determination is incorrect, or if you believe your status will change before you begin law school, please complete our In-State Classification Application.

Health Insurance
You are required to have health insurance during all semesters at Colorado Law, and we encourage you to think about your options now. You may choose your own insurance or elect coverage under the university's Student Gold Health Insurance Plan. If you do not choose your own insurance and provide proof of coverage, you automatically will be enrolled in the Student Gold Health Insurance Plan and charged $1,995 per semester for the 2020-2021 academic year (and every future year of enrollment). Selection and waiver instructions can be found here. The deadline to submit the waiver (of Student Gold Health Insurance) to the university should be established in spring 2019..
Please direct all health insurance and immunization questions to CU-Boulder's Wardenburg Health Services at 303.492.5107. Note that if you do not complete the immunization requirements, Wardenburg will place a hold on your account that will prevent you from enrolling in future semesters.

LLM Students Without a US JD
Plan to arrive in Boulder in early August. If you do not have a US JD, you will be required to enroll in the Introduction to US Law course that will begin prior to the start of the fall semester on Monday, August 10th. If you have a first degree in law from a common law country, you are eligible to waive the Intro to US Law requirement.
Colorado Law will share an updated orientation schedule in early-June, and we will continue to formalize the schedule through early August. For your reference, a copy of last year's orientation schedule can be found here.
LLM Students Who Have a US JD
Plan to arrive in Boulder in mid-August. We anticipate offering the first formal orientation session for both international and domestic LLM students on Tuesday, August 18th. However, your international colleagues will begin both their studies and their orientation sessions starting on Monday, August 120h and you are welcome to join us at any of their orientation sessions or for one of our less than formal happy hours.
Colorado Law will share an updated orientation schedule in early-June, will continue to formalize the schedule through early August. For your reference, a copy of last year's orientation schedule can be found here.
Housing
Law students generally prefer to live in off-campus accommodations. The International Student and Scholar Services has information on long and short-term housing options. Further, CU-Boulder has an Office of Off-Campus Housing that maintains listings of rooms, houses, apartments, and roommate requests and provides students with Boulder maps, copies of the Boulder Tenants' Guide, the Boulder Model Lease, subleasing and roommate agreements, furniture rental information, moving tips and other materials related to living off campus. Students can also schedule an appointment with a local lawyer on Tuesdays or Fridays to discuss rental concerns.
CU-Boulder’s Graduate and Family Housing consists of several apartment complexes located north and east of campus. One and two-bedroom apartments are for married students, and studio-style apartments (i.e., one-room quarters) are for single students. There is usually a very long wait due to high demand, so apply early. The application for family housing is separate from that of the residence halls. For further information, contact the Family Housing Office at 1350 20th Street, Boulder, CO 80302, call 303-492-6384, or email graduatefamilyhousing@colorado.edu.
Lastly, Colorado Law also maintains a list of housing tips, neighborhood suggestions, and a list of housing options that can be accessed here.
Transportation
The combination of living in an extremely bike friendly city, the CU student bus pass (which includes Denver's RTD transportation service), Boulder's designation as a Gold Level Walk Friendly Community, and a relatively medium size college town provides for easy student access to campus and should reassure most student concerns regarding a potential commute to campus. The University of Colorado Boulder also provides bus access to the Denver International Airport and a Ski Bus Program that provides access to multiple Colorado mountain towns during the ski/snowboard season. More information for CU student transportation options can be found on our Environmental Center's website.
Parking Permits and Bike Registration
Parking Permits Sell Out Quickly. We will notify you as soon as 2020-2021 student parking permits are available, and we do suggest that you purchase a parking permit as soon as they become available.
Parking permits are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parking & Transportation Services recommends that you are at a computer and ready to order the moment permits go on sale. The parking lots for the Wolf Law Building are 470 and 402. If there are no more permits for lots 470 and 402 when you place your order, the next closest lot is 308. If you have any issues purchasing a permit online, please contact Parking & Transportation Services directly at 303.492.7384. The Law School will not be able to provide any technical support.
Bike Registration. You can register your bicycle here. Don't forget to stop by one of the two Bike Stations to have your registration sticker affixed to your bike.
LLM Course Registration and Curricular Requirements
2020-2021 curricular requirements will be formalized after the 2020-2021 law school catalogue is released in spring 2020. Preliminary course request sheets will be sent directly to all admitted LLM students, in addition to being available for download on this site, in late-May. Preliminary course requests do not result in a finalized fall schedule; your fall schedule will be finalized during orientation in August. The approved 2020-2021 LLM curriculum are below. External Scholarships
Colorado Law compiles a list of external scholarship opportunities annually. The list of providers can be found here.
We highly encourage all LLMs in our Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmnetal Law LLM program to apply for a Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation (RMMLF) award. RMMLF is located near Boulder, and in addition to their scholarship opportunity, they also provide extensive global networking and learning opportunities.
Financial Aid
For federal financial aid, submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Find the FAFSA application at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. The priority deadline to submit the FAFSA is February 15, 2020.

Veterans
If you are a veteran, our university is devoted to providing you with services that will help you succeed in law school. Doman Amici Program (DAP)
Colorado Law's Doman Amici Program was created in conjunction with the Doman Society of International Law to:
- help our international students to adjust to the rigorous academic environment at a tier 1 US law school,
- help our LLM students to make the most out of the variety of academic, professional, social, cultural, and recreational opportunities in Boulder and Colorado, and
- formally facilitate exchanges between our JD and LLM students. The JD mentor program pairs international LLMs with current 2L or 3L students (second or third year JD students) who serve as academic, cultural, and social references for our international students.
Further, while the program was created to help international students integrate into the Colorado Law community, the DAP Program also presents a unique opportunity for both LLM students and theirDAP peers to elevate their global, legal proficiencies. Our LLM students' unique academic and professional backgrounds have much to offer the Colorado Law community, and the opportunity for DAP participants to grow and learn is reciprocal.
All LLM students are eligible to participate in the DAP program. Applications for the JD Mentor Program will be available in July 2020.
Honor Code
Please review Colorado Law's Honor Code and the University of Colorado Boulder's Student Conduct Code (see Honor Code under the Students section). Information will be sent on how to formally acknowledge both before the first day of classes.
Inclusiveness and Diversity
We support many efforts within, and outside, of the law school to promote inclusiveness and diversity.
Our notable student organizations who celebrate diversity at Colorado Law are:
- Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA),
- Black Law Students Association (BLSA),
- Latino Law Students Association (LLSA),
- Native American Indian Law Students Association (NALSA),
- OUTlaw, the LGBT & Allies Law Student Group.
Fernando Guzman III, Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Excellence
Dean Guzman is committed to promoting and supporting diversity within the law school. Please contact him with questions about the services available to students at Colorado Law.
For international students whose first language is not English, we offer an 8-week summer Legal English program in conjunction with CU-Boulder's International English Center. Conditionally admitted LLM students are required to attend the course, however, both fully admitted LLMs and non-degree seeking legal professionals are also welcome. Legal English program courses include:
- Writing & Rhetoric,
- Legal Oral Communication Skills,
- Understanding Legal Text,
- Law School Prep (for Colorado Law's conditionally admitted students), and
- Micro courses that target structure, grammar, pronunciation, and presentation skills.
Further, current law students in need of additional English and Legal English support are eligible to enroll in an individual course to support their current legal studies.
Information and application instructions for the Legal English program can be accessed here.
