My skills are with people - motivating them, guiding them, supporting them, working with them to produce results.  Why I ever thought I'd make a good electrical engineer is beyond me now, but I was able to find my groove after graduate school, working at CU.  I need people around me, and I'm energized when working with others.  While I'm Type A in my personal life, I accept that people learn more from making mistakes than from instruction, so I've
tried to let them do so and help them think through those mistakes and learn lessons from them.

My advice to students...

Don't be afraid to make mistakes.  Good judgement comes from mistakes, and mistakes come from bad judgement.  Don't be afraid to take a chance.  Actions should be thought out, but if the plan doesn't work, rethink it and try again.  One of my favorite sayings is, "If you're very very careful, nothing good or bad will ever happen to you!"
