Jan Burton had a long career in high technology, working in leadership roles for Motorola, Avaya, Apple Computer, and other distinguished companies. She led sales and marketing teams globally and lived in Europe and traveled extensively. She started a Boulder-based tiny home manufacturing company in 2014 and is interested in design and housing issues.

She served on Boulder City Council from 2015-2017 and is a strong advocate for better governance and improved democracy in local government. She has mentored business students at Leeds as part of the Women’s Council, as well as pilots, architects, and musicians.

She serves on the CU College of Music Advisory Board and other Boulder-based non-profit boards. She writes an editorial column for the Daily Camera. She is a pilot, an avid hiker, and volunteers for Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks as a raptor monitor.

My advice to students...

Keep your mind open to other disciplines, which can enrich your life and give you perspective.
