Norman H Stoller Headshot

Following dental school at the Univ of Pennsylvania, I served in the Army for three years (1967-1971). Upon completing my military obligation I returned to Penn where I received my specialty training in periodontics. I then joined the school's full time faculty. I left Penn in 1983 at which time I took over the position of Chairman of the Division of Periodontics at CU's dental school.  My academic career involved a perfect mix of clinical research,
didactic and clinical teaching as well as private practice. My clinical research involved the development of agents useful for the management of periodontal disease. I retired in 2005 at which time my wife and I moved to Frisco, CO in order to enjoy the benefits of living in the mountains. About 1 year ago we left Frisco and high altitude living and moved to Boulder, to enjoy the benefits of living close to our daughter and grand kids. My non-outdoor hobby is wood turning.

My advice to students...

First and foremost, recognize the reality that the most important part of one's  life revolves around the people with whom you spend the most time, typically friends and family. Secondly, the career you choose will occupy a good bit of your early post education years.  Choose wisely, find an occupation that you truly enjoy and find fulfilling. If in retrospect after spending time in a career that  you thought  was a good fit, it turns out to be less than ideal, don't be afraid to make a change.  Lastly, get involved in your community, explore the world, find some outlets that you can enjoy in your later years.
