New course Complex Challenges in Leadership to be offered during Maymester
This Maymester students participating in the Engineering Leadership Program, Presidents Leadership Class, or the Leadership Studies Minor are open to enroll in a new course being offered during Maymester: COEN 3050 Complex Challenges in Leadership.
This course approaches leadership as a process of inquiry, empathy and action, cultivating skills leaders need to understand, communicate about, and generate innovative approaches to complex issues. The course is being taught by Dr. Angela Thieman Dino, a well-respected instructor that has taught numerous leadership courses across campus.
"Each student will conduct extensive, principled research about a complex social issue of their choice," explains Dr. Thieman Dino. "Students will communicate their insights in a variety of modes, for example, essays, visual models, narratives, research reports, and oral presentations. They must discern the leadership-related advantages and limitations of each."
The course will require students to work collaboratively to support multiple iterations of one another's work and to practice intellectual empathy to adaptively inform and engage others. Students interested in this course should direct questions to their respective leadership program directors.
