Application Requirements
The Graduate School at CU Boulder has established minimum standards for admission.
Qualified students may be recommended for admission to regular degree status by approved programs of the Graduate School provided they meet the following criteria. Individual graduate departments may have additional or more restrictive standards by which they evaluate graduate applicants.

According to the CU Boulder Graduate School, applicants must:
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, or have done work equivalent to that required for such a degree.
- Show promise of ability to pursue advanced study and research, as judged by the student’s scholastic record.
- Have adequate preparation to enter graduate study in the chosen field. Have at least a 2.75 (2.00=C) undergraduate grade point average.
Additionally, CU requires international students to meet English Profiency Requirements. Use the link below to read more about this requirement.
Score minimums are: internet based TOEFL score of 75; IETS score of 6.0; Duolingo score of 120. These scores can be found on the "All Others" line in the chart. These numbers are the minimum students will need to meet immigration requirements to receive an F-1 visa and be able to study at CU. The departments listed are ones whose requirements differ from the immigration minimum.
Note, some students from specific countries may be exempt from this requirement.

Once You've Been Accepted
All international students should allow 2-3 months for visa application processes. In order to acquire either a F-1 or J-1 student visa, it is necessary to have an appointment with a visa official at the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. You are required to pay the U.S. government SEVIS fee to make this appointment, and to bring your application materials, admission offer, passport and immigration documents issued by the university to the appointment. It is best to try to receive this visa as soon as possible after your admission. More detailed instructions on how to apply for your visa will be sent to you upon admission to CU Boulder, along with your admission offer. MENV qualifies for STEM-OPT Extension for qualified students. To learn more, use the buttons below.
