Meet your Beyond Campus Advisors: Vivian Shi

Vivian Shi Headshot

Hello, everyone!

My name is Vivian Shi, and I am a junior in Biomedical Engineering. I commute from Arvada, where I live with my parents and my brother who also goes to CU. A couple of things I like to do in my free time are club sports. I do club taekwondo and gymnastics, and I love both of them, even though they keep me on campus until late at night! On the weekends, I coach gymnastics and take naps, and I try not to leave my bed since I don’t usually have much time at home.

I hope these first months have gone well for everyone—we’re almost on Thanksgiving break, so hang in there! In honor of fall, here are some of my biggest tips for commuting in the new weather.

Bring a change of socks. There’s nothing worse than walking around in the rain all day without a change of socks.

Always drive with a snow sweeper. I’ve had to get snow off my windshield with just my hands.

Drive slowly in the snow. Sometimes you can’t avoid driving in snow, but take it slow, and you’ll make it eventually.

Layer up. Sometimes classrooms are overheated, and it pays to be able to take off warmer layers.

Admire the campus scenery. Many of the trees on campus turn beautiful in the fall; take some time to slow down and look around.

Visit the Commuter Lounge for some hot drinks. Walking around in the winter is so much better with a cup of tea or coffee to sip on.

Commuting in the fall and winter can be hard, but you’ve got this! Stay warm and safe everyone!
