Commuter Buffs: Meet Your Mentors
Sahithi Govardhanam

My name is Sahithi Govardhanam, and I am one of the Arts and Science commuter peer mentors. I am a sophomore majoring in integrative physiology. I have been commuting from Thornton since the spring semester of my freshman year.
I was born in Telangana, India. When I was 11 years old, my family and I immigrated to the United States. Growing up in a new country, I constantly sought ways to stay connected to my roots. One such outlet has been movies. Here are some of my favorite Indian movies:
- Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham: This movie is my all-time favorite! It follows a multimillionaire family and the conflicts brought on when Rahul, the adopted older son, falls in love with Anjali, a woman from a poor family. You can watch it on Netflix, Amazon Prime or YouTube.
- RRR (Roudram Ranam Rudhiram): This movie features the Oscar-winning best song of the year, Naatu Naatu! This movie is set in pre-independent India where a fearless warrior comes face-to-face with a steely cop serving the British forces. You can watch it on Netflix.
- Raja Rani: This movie is my go-to romcom! This movie follows George and Regina, who are forced to get married despite their strong dislike for each other. Their lives take a turn as the couple face a tragedy. You can watch it on Amazon Prime, Hulu or YouTube.
- Bahubali: The Beginning: Set in ancient India, this movie follows a boy born in Mahishmati Kingdom and raised by tribal people who one day learns of his origins and royal heritage. This movie has a sequel titled Bahubali: The Conclusion. You can watch it on Netflix.
- 12th Fail: This movie is a real life-story of two Indian government officials–Indian Police Service (IPS) Manoj Kumar Sharma and Indian Revenue Service (IRS) Shraddha Joshi. One day, Manoj, growing up in a village where cheating in school is the norm, decides to restart his academic journey with honesty, aiming to become an IPS officer. Prepare to shed some tears with this movie! You can watch it on Netflix or Hulu.
- Hi Nanna: This movie follows a single father, Viraj, and his 6-year-old daughter, Mahi. Mahi has always been curious about her mother, but her father has always seemed to ignore her questions. That is until one day, when he begins to narrate the story of her missing mother. This movie is guaranteed to fill your heart with love! You can watch it on Netflix.
These movies are just a few among many that I have wholeheartedly enjoyed watching. Feel free to stop by the Commuter Lounge or contact me if you would like to learn more about these movies or would like more recommendations. I would also love to have a chat if you have watched any of these movies.
