10 ways to get involved on campus

Whether your student is already a member of an organization or they’re seeking ways to meet fellow Buffs, a new academic year brings more opportunities to get involved.

Participating in new events and programs can help your student meet others, discover interests or hobbies and learn outside the classroom. Wherever your student is at in their academic journey, here are some options they can check out this fall.

1. Join student organizations

Did you know that CU Boulder has over 500 student organizations? Whether your student is interested in politics, outdoor activities, artistic expression, social justice or more, there’s something for everyone. Your student can visit BuffConnect to explore groups by topic or alphabetical list and attend the Be Involved Fair on Aug. 28 to meet with student organizations in person.

If your student can’t find a group that matches their interests, encourage them to start one of their own! The Center for Student Involvement has resources to help students plan events, raise funds and grow their organization.

2. Attend student events

Each semester, there are hundreds of events, workshops and opportunities for students to meet others and have fun. Events range from DIY nights and fitness classes to networking and trivia nights, so there’s something for everyone. Encourage your student to download the CU Boulder Life mobile app to learn about upcoming events.

3. Volunteer

Volunteering is a great way to get involved on campus and in the Boulder area. Not only can your student make a positive difference in their community, but there are plenty of opportunities to fit their schedule. Encourage your student to visit the Volunteer Resource Center to learn more. They can also check out CU in the Community events for one-time service opportunities or search CUServes for a wide variety of options within the Boulder community.

7. Become a Sustainable Buff

If your student is passionate about sustainability, the Environmental Center (E-Center) is the place for them to get involved. Your student can join the Sustainable Buffs Community, attend events, volunteer with Ralphie’s Green Stampede and more. Connecting with the E-Center is a great way for your student to meet others with similar interests, gain experience and follow their passion.

10. Work on campus

In addition to earning money, working on campus is a convenient way for students to meet new people and gain work experience. One of the major perks of working at an on-campus job is flexibility. Most on-campus jobs and paid research studies offer flexible scheduling to fit your student’s classes and other commitments.
