Explore the Hill Challenge

We invite you to participate the the "Explore the Hill Challenge" to discover what our campus has to offer right in our backyard. This challenge will introduce you to the Hill's famous restaurants, entertainment venues and more. Try to check off each of the items below!

Check out some famous Hill spots:

Walking south along Broadway, can you spot the Hill’s favorite Halal restaurant, That One Restaurant on the Hill? They’re new on the Hill, they serve great food, and they’re great about accommodating dietary needs and preferences.

After you pass The Root of the Hill, a longtime Hill retail shop, duck into the alley on your right to see murals by local artists (and for a great photo op).

Walk northwest down the alley and end up at the Hill’s trendiest retail shops: 303 Boards and SLCT. Check out their stores for skatewear, shoes, vintage clothes, and boards.

Thirsty? Grab a happy hour margarita across the street at Taco Junky.

Hungry? Enjoy the “best burger in Boulder” on The Sink’s outdoor patio, but make sure you step inside and ask to see President Obama’s signature on the wall (he stopped by The Sink in 2016 for some ‘za).

Looking for something vegan? Walk a block north to Half Fast Subs for the country’s largest sandwich menu (it covers the entire back wall) and ask for the vegan options. They’re also known for their cheap cocktail pitchers!

Walk back south on 13th St and you’ll see The Fox Theatre, the Hill’s concert venue. Snoop Dogg, Phish, Jack Johnson, Wu-Tang Clan, and many more epic acts have played here.

Have you spotted any graffiti art by local artists SMiLE yet? There’s one on the wall just north of The Fox, and many more around Boulder. Can you find 5 on the Hill?

Check out these bonus stops to explore more:

Head south down 13th to Beach Park for a great outdoor space to relax and see friends. Check out the Harbeck-Bergheim house on the park grounds built in 1899 which now serves as the home for the non-profit Women’s Wilderness!

From Beach Park, continue south on 13th toward Aurora Ave then hang a right to head toward the Boulder Pottery Lab. Once a fire station built in 1908, it has been a pottery studio since 1963!

Continue down Aurora Ave to the see The Academy. Once a Catholic boarding school for girls, Mount St. Gertrude Academy served many students and Sisters suffering from tuberculosis. The Academy is now operates as a retirement community.

Want to visit a Boulder staple? From the Academy, head south down Lincoln Place toward Baseline Road. Across the street you’ll see the Colorado Historic Chautauqua National Landmark. Located at the base of the Flatirons, there are multiple trails to check out if you are interested in a beautiful hike!
