Grandma Marge's Applesauce Cake
Ingredients
Yields 12-16 pieces
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 beaten eggs
- 1 1/2 c. applesauce
- 2 c. flour (can substitute gluten free flour)
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/3 c. golden raisins (can vary amount to liking or omit)
- Powdered sugar (to sprinkle on before serving)
- Electric hand mixer
Directions
- Preheat oven 350 degrees
- Grease and flour 9x13 inch pan
- With electric hand mixer cream together shortening and sugar then add beaten eggs and applesauce to mixture
- Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and cloves
- Then add dry to wet ingredients a cup at a time.
- Stir in raisins
- Bake for approximately 30- 40 mins depending on your oven. Inserted toothpick should come out clean.
- Cut in squares when cool.
- Sprinkle with powder sugar before serving
