The University of Colorado Boulder Police Department has several officers who are certified in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). They use this training predominantly when they provide Active Harmer Response training. CPTED focuses on altering one’s environment to make it safer and/or more defensible against criminal activity. This can involve making assessments regarding property maintenance, lighting, fencing, and even interior design. The application of CPTED measures can reduce criminal activity and/or the fear of criminal activity.
