C4C in spirngAligning with federal recommendations and peer institutions, the University of Colorado Boulder is adopting five-year term limits for Postdoctoral Associates and postdocs who are classified as Research Associates (or Postdoctoral Research Associates). Postdoctoral Fellows' terms are governed by the conditions of their fellowship, and therefore, not subject to the five-year term limit.

The new guidelines will go into effect on November 1, 2021, and contain detailed information on the process.

Term limits promote the understanding that postdoctoral appointments should be treated as a temporary period of training and help ensure the career progression of postdocs is consistently assessed.
