Ben is an assistant professor in the department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering, a principal investigator of the Western Water Assessment, and a Fellow of the University of Colorado Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES). His research group focuses on solving problems in the field of physical hydrology, with specific interests into how land cover and climate changes will affect water availability across the western U.S. Several recent projects have focused on changes in snowpack affect drought and its prediction in the Colorado River Basin, as well as studying post-wildfire hydrology and water quality along the Front Range. These analyses use in situ observations, satellite remote sensing, as well as laboratory-scale simulations. Beyond drought and wildfire, research within the Livneh Lab group have contributed to knowledge on topics ranging from flooding to irrigation, climate change to snow hydrology, from local to global scales.
