Debbie Whitehead

Deborah Whitehead (she/her) is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Religious Studies and Associate Director of the Center for Media, Religion, and Culture at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her research focuses on intersections between religion and philosophy, gender, popular culture, and media in US history. She is the author of William James, Pragmatism, and American Culture (Indiana University Press, 2016), and her current book project is a study of contemporary US evangelical media. 

Dr. Whitehead's Project

Dr. Whitehead will be working on a project focused on expressions of philosemitism, or deliberately positive conceptions, and sometimes appropriations, of Jews, Jewishness, and Judaism based on stereotypes, among contemporary white U.S. evangelicals.
