John Rae (1882-1963) was an American illustrator of children's books active in New Jersey. After attending the Art Student's League of NY, Rae studied under fellow artist/illustrator Howard Pyle at Drexel Institute. Rae contributed to over 50 books and magazines and wrote and illustrated his own works, such as The New Adventures of AliceGrasshopper Green and the Meadow Mice, and Granny Goose. Rae was active in the artist community, becoming an instructor of painting and design at Rollins College, as well as a member of the Society of Illustrators.
