Edmund Dulac

Edmund Dulac (1882-1953) was a French-British illustrator. He did extensive illustrations with children's books and fairy tales in the first half of the twentieth century. From France, Dulac moved to London after studying at the École des Beaux-Arts, and began commissioned work, including illustrating novels of the Brontë Sisters. His artistic career changed around the time of World Wars I and II, producing children's relief books during the first war, and after the war, magazine illustrations. Dulac produced banknotes and postage stamps as well during the second war, marking the beginnings of Elizabeth II's reign as queen of England. It was before World War I that Dulac illustrated the most fairytales, including The Sleeping Beauty and Other Fairy Tales (1910), although these were produced later as well, such as in Edmund Dulac's Fairy Book (1916).
