David Hume is a physicist at NIST where he performs experiments with trapped atomic ions. His research aims to develop and improve optical clocks based on trapped ions using quantum metrology techniques. His group operates optical clocks based on trapped, sympathetically cooled aluminum ions and uses them for applications ranging from frequency standards to fundamental physics.
