I’m pleased to welcome you to the Research & Innovation Office (RIO) blog. In the weeks to come, we will focus on sharing how our research is changing the world and the power of our partnerships. We are excited to highlight new and innovative ways we are accelerating ideas to impact.

The Research & Innovation Office is committed to connecting the dots by creating an environment that sparks and enhances outstanding research and creative work, encourages it to be more collaborative and interdisciplinary and provides pathways to amplify impact on people around the world. On-campus, RIO is connecting more of the “dots” to work effectively together but we won’t realize our full potential until we can integrate just as seamlessly with all of our off-campus partners. We are well on our way.

To help support CU Boulder’s enterprise from ideas through commercialization, we have consolidated the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative, the Office of Industry Collaboration, Technology Transfer, the Grand Challenge, AeroSpace Ventures, our 11 research institutes and the support administrative functions into the Research & Innovation Office, or RIO. We support connecting external partners with our researchers, facilitate more efficient processes and allow our researchers and partners to focus on what they do best.

Our faculty and students rely on collaborators to strengthen our work and help us translate the on-campus work into broader impact. Together with our industry partners, government laboratories and agencies, and entrepreneurs we forge new ground that produces transformative results. More than ever, we want to connect companies with student talent, inventors with opportunities to commercialize their discoveries and innovative organizations with game-changing experts and technologies.

I hope these stories inform, entertain and inspire you to collaborate with us to achieve the future we all imagine but can only create together.
