Meet the MO Team!
Undergraduate Student Presenters -- student presenters write astronomy programing, pilot telescopes, and lead the observing night live-streams!
Hello, my name is William Solorio and I am from Northglenn, Colorado, studying physics as a sophomore undergraduate.
Astronomy has always interested me, and astronomy outreach is the perfect way to share my enthusiasm and curiosity with others. I spent the majority of my childhood absorbing as much as I could from famous science communicators like Bill Nye, Carl Sagan, and Niel DeGrasse Tyson. It is crucial that we conduct outreach programs (in whatever ways) not only because we can get more individuals interested and involved with sciences like astronomy this way, but because they help strengthen communities as well. From my experiences growing up in a Hispanic household, I know that many individuals in the LatinX community have limited resources when it comes to education, so being able to reach my community in this way and give back by hopefully inspiring others is what got me interested in astronomy outreach.
We may have been born too early to explore the universe ourselves, but we can certainly explore and learn with our clever instruments and technology!
¡Hola! Me llamo William Solorio. Soy de Northglenn, Colorado y recientemente soy un estudiante de física en mi segundo año aquí en la Universidad de Colorado Boulder.
Siempre me ha interesado la astronomía. Si les preguntan a mis parientes, les dirán que pase mi juventud viendo los programas de Bill Nye, Carl Sagan, y Niel DeGrasse Tyson. La divulgación de astronomía es muy importante para la comunidad. No solo tiene el poder para educar e inspirar personas a estudiar astronomía, sino que también tiene el efecto de mejorar las comunidades. Yo crecí en una familia hispana, y se de mis experiencias que muchos en nuestra comunidad tienen acceso limitado a recursos educativos. Es por esta razón que me interesa la divulgación, porque me da la oportunidad para ayudar e inspirar a mi comunidad como los científicos me inspiraron a mí.
¡Si, es cierto que nacimos muy temprano para explorar el universo en persona, pero eso no nos puede detener de explorar el universo con la tecnología moderna!
Hello, my name is Luis and I am a sophomore studying physics here at CU Boulder!
I became involved in this program because I’m passionate about the sciences and wanted to share this passion with other people from the Hispanic community. I also think it’s very important to highlight the important role that Latin-American people have played in the development of astronomy. Hopefully this program gets you interested in pursuing a career in science in the future.
In my spare time I like to rock climb, play soccer, and play chess.
Here’s a funny space fact: Mars is the only planet we know of completely populated by robots.

Me involucré en este programa porque soy muy apasionado de las ciencias y quería compartir esta pasión con otras personas de la comunidad hispana. También creo que es muy importante aprender de las contribuciones de astrónomos y astrónomas latinoamericanos. Espero que este programa les anime en seguir una carrera científica en el futuro.
En mi tiempo libre me gusta escalar, jugar fútbol y jugar al ajedrez.

I became interested in the astronomy outreach program because I wanna make astronomy more accessible and less intimidating to people like me who might not speak English as a first language, or know much about astronomy!
Fun fact: I make a killer breakfast burrito!
Hobbies: I love cooking, cruising on my skateboard, joining group workouts, live music and spending time with people I love!
One thing I find super cool about astronomy? -How it has had an influence on so many things that we don’t really notice (like architecture!)

Me interesé en el programa de astronomy outreach porque me gustaría hacer a la astronomía más accesible y menos intimidante para personas qué tal vez no hablan inglés como su primera lengua, o no tienen mucho conocimiento sobre la astronomía.
Fun fact: ¡Preparo un excelente breakfast burrito!
Hobbies: Me encanta cocinar, hacer ejercicio con mis amigos, la música en vivo y pasar tiempo con mis personas favoritas!
Una cosa que encuentro súper cool sobre la astronomía: -Me parece súper interesante cómo ha influenciado cosas que no notamos normalmente (como la arquitectura!)
My name is Polet Carrasco, I am a senior in the mathematics department my interests include education, research in STEM, outreach and advocacy. I enjoy solving problems and learning new things everyday! I am from Mexico City but lived in Colorado most of my life. One cool thing about Astronomy is its ability to connect people and cultures (past and present). Star gazing is one of my favorite activities I am very grateful for my mentors who always help me when I struggle understanding new concepts. I hope you enjoy learning from the MO program
Mi nombre es Polet Carrasco, soy estudiante de último año en el departamento de matemáticas y mi interés incluye educación, investigación en STEM, y abogacía . ¡Disfruto resolviendo problemas y aprendiendo cosas nuevas todos los días! Soy de la Ciudad de México, pero viví en Colorado la mayor parte de mi vida. Una cosa interesante de la astronomía es su capacidad de conectar personas y culturas (pasadas y presentes). Mirar las estrellas es una de mis actividades favoritas. Estoy muy agradecido con mis mentores que siempre me ayudan cuando tengo problemas para comprender nuevos conceptos. Espero que disfrutes aprendiendo del programa MO.

Hi there! My name is Rachel, and I’m a grad student in the Astrophysical and Planetary Science department.
For the first few years of grad school I studied Cosmology, but I’m transitioning over to studying the atmosphere of Mars. I’m originally from Idaho and I went to Houston for college.
One of my favorite things about astronomy is that we have observatories as public-facings forums where we can invite people to learn about the most exciting news and phenomena in the universe.
I’m really excited to have you see the extrodinary observing night tha the MO Team has put together!

Al inicio de mi doctorado, estudié galaxias y cosmología, pero ahora estudio Marte. Originalmente, soy de Idaho y fui a Houston, Texas para la universidad.
Unas de mis cosas favoritas de astrofísica es que tenemos los observatorios donde podemos invitar al público aprender sobre las noticias y fenómenos más emocionantes del universo.

Hola! My name is Constanza. I'm a Chilean incoming graduate student at the Astrophysical and Planetary Science department. I did my undergrad in Chile and then moved to Canada to pursue a Master's degree in Astrophysics. I like studying the most extreme objects in the universe, such as neutron stars and black holes, and what we can learn by observing their environments. I'm very grateful to be part of this project and I'm super excited about moving to Boulder and being part of the CU community!

¡Hola! Soy Daniel. I'm a Venezuelan graduate student at the Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences Department. I studied most of my physics in Venezuela, and started my work on the rings of Saturn when I moved to the US (6 years ago already!). I also studied Philosophy. There is nothing better than astronomy for giving a true context of our existence, and that's why I like looking at the sky and facilitating observing nights to the general public.

¡Wepa! My name is Marcel. I'm a Puerto Rican second year graduate student at the Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences. Before this I was a Physics student (with a little bit of Meteorology because why not) at the University of Puerto Rico. Currently I'm studying the Sun, and am very biased to say it's our best star. I'm very new to Astronomy and feel grateful for all the great resources at CU to explore Astronomy. I hope you are excited as I am to explore some of these resources and share them with a broader community!
