Did you know that animals like cockroaches and spiders inspire cutting-edge technology? Dive into the world of bio-inspired robots with Mechanical Engineering professor Dr. Kaushik Jayaram, Computer Scientist Dr. Srinjita Bhaduri, and CU Science Discovery staff member and Ecologist, Dr. Alexandra Rose. In this grant-supported one-day class, we’ll learn about real Bugs, and the challenges they face in human-made environments like our homes. We’ll get creative by engineering our own origami-based robots that resemble real insects and we’ll learn how to program them using the BBC micro:bit – a pocket-sized computer that introduces you to how software and hardware work together. Unleash your imagination and discover how fun biology and robotics can be. Are you ready to build the future, one bug at a time? Let's go!

Note: This class is being run as a curriculum development pilot for a Build Your Own Bug kit being developed. This kit will allow teachers in rural Colorado to teach robotics, engineering and computer science to their students. All Build a Better "Bug" participants agree to give feedback on the materials, content, and overall experience of the program. This valuable feedback will be used to improve the program before it's delivered to teachers.
