Rapid prototyping with technologies such as laser cutting help us to make projects that were out of reach just a few years ago. In this virtual class, we’ll use rapid prototyping technologies to create a customized puzzle that features elements designed by YOU! In the morning portion of the class, we’ll learn about laser cutting and how to design 2D shapes and create our own puzzle piece designs using Vector graphics (a free online design software). In the afternoon section, we’ll switch gears to create the artistic design that will be etched onto our puzzles. Once your project is complete, your custom puzzle will be laser cut, etched on wood and mailed to you! This class is perfect for those looking for an introduction to the world of rapid prototyping or those with knowledge of the basics looking to challenge themselves a bit.
This virtual class requires a computer, tablet or smartphone with Zoom capability. Please ensure that the latest version of Zoom is installed on the device your child will be using. Note: School-issued Chromebooks have a number of restrictions that may cause accessibility issues.
All materials needed for this class are provided by Science Discovery. Your child's finished projects will be mailed at the conclusion of the workshop to the address we have on file.
Grade Policy: Careful consideration is used to determine grade levels for all camps and classes. To provide the highest quality experience for all students, it is necessary to adhere to the specified grade range for this program.
Cancellation and Transfer Policy: Science Discovery has designed its cancellation policy to minimize the number of program spots that are unused due to last-minute cancellations. Cancellations made more than 10 business days prior to the start of the virtual class will incur a $35 administrative fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations made within 10 business days of the start of the virtual class. In the event that a program is canceled by Science Discovery, registrants will receive a full refund. Transfer requests made up to 10 days prior to the start of a virtual class will incur a $15 administrative fee. Transfer requests made within 10 business days will incur a $35 administrative fee.
