British Gingerbread
Description of the dish: A spongey and cakey gingerbread that is delicious with a cup of tea as a snacking cake in the afternoon.
Time to prep: 20 minutes
Time to cook: 1 hour
Ingredients:
- 8 oz Flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 4 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tbs treacle (use molasses)
- 2 tbs golden syrup (can use maple syrup)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 4 oz of margarine
- 1 egg
Cooking Instructions:
- Sieve flour and ginger
- Melt sugar, treacle, syrup, milk and margarine in a pan
- Let cool a little then add baking soda
- Pour in flour and ginger and mix well
- Finally add well beaten egg
- Pour into a square cake pan (8” x 8” silicon is great or greased metal)
- Bake for about 1 hour at 325-350F
