Jan Owens
Jan Owens elected to Staff Council

Jan Owens from the Center for Student Involvement was elected to serve a 3-year term as the Area II Representative for Staff Council. Congrats Jan!

Danny Conroy receives new position in the Renee Crown Wellness Institute

Danny Conroy joined CU Boulder in 2012 with an idea to create a center for students in recovery. In the following months, the CU Collegiate Recovery Center (CUCRC) was founded. Over the past six years, the center has grown to serve students who are in recovery as well as those seeking a sober lifestyle. This past spring, eight CUCRC students graduated and Danny also decided to graduate on to the next adventure. Danny will be joining the staff of the brand new Renee Crown Wellness Institute as the director of communication and engagement, in which he was instrumental in establishing. Congratulations to Danny on all that he has accomplished, and we look forward to seeing him around campus and the center as a volunteer. With Danny’s transition, Leisha Conners Bauer will be overseeing the CUCRC.

Amanda Scuderi
Amanda Scuderi joins the Volunteer Resource Center

Amanda is from Cary, North Carolina and earned her B.A. in Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She spent two years working at her alma mater and taught high school students for a year in Madrid, Spain. Amanda was most recently the Graduate Assistant for Alternative Service Experience at Appalachian State University, where she earned her M.A. in Student Affairs Administration. Amanda loves working with students as they grow and develop.

Maggie Reuter, Roy Montgomery and Sarah Garcia-Smith join the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs welcomes Maggie Reuter as Professional Assistant to Maia Andreasen, Executive Director for Finance, Policy & Business Administration and Jason Ramich, Director of IT. Maggie began her CU career as a Faculty Coordinator at the University of Colorado Law School after working in global communications and business operations in the IT industry. She earned a M.B.A. from the University of Colorado Denver and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from St. Bonaventure University in New York. Maggie is excited to join the Student Affairs organization and support the innovative work and programs in progress. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with family and friends hiking, camping, kayaking, playing tennis and cards.

Roy Montgomery
Roy Montgomery joined the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs as an Executive Assistant on June 3. Before joining the CU Boulder family, Roy served in student affairs roles at Bates College and Howard University. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political science with a minor in History from Howard University. Roy also holds a Master’s of Education in Student Affairs from Regent University. Roy loves to read non-fiction—he is currently reading Becoming by Michelle Obama--and listening to 90’s R&B Music.

Sarah Garcia-Smith, a CU Buff for nearly 18 years, joins the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs as the Professional Assistant for Associate Vice Chancellor Jennifer McDuffie and Director of HR for Student Affairs Laura Edlin. She graduated from CU Boulder in 2005 with a B.A. in History and became a campus staff member shortly thereafter. Previously, she worked in HR and payroll with both Medical Services (formerly Wardenburg Health Services) and Recreation Services. During her time working as a staff member on campus, Sarah earned a graduate certificate in Leadership and Management as well as a M.A. in Higher Education. She is excited to continue working in the Division of Student Affairs and to be working closely with Student Affairs leadership. She looks forward to learning and growing in this new role and doing her part to make CU Boulder the best it can be for students and employees alike. In her free time, Sarah enjoys hiking and camping in the Colorado Rockies and going on bike rides with her husband of 11 years and her 9 and 7 year old sons.

Jeremy Moore named Interim Director of Off-Campus Housing & Neighborhood Relations

Jeremy Moore has been named the Interim Director of Off Campus Housing & Neighborhood Relations. We are beginning a national search to identify a new director and Jeremy will remain in the interim role until one is identified.

Student Engagement Response Team wins International Award

During their 2019 annual conference in Indianapolis, the Association of College Unions International celebrated achievements in advancing campus community. This year the Student Engagement Response Team at CU Boulder was chosen as the Shirley Bird Perry Staff-Driven Program of the Year. This award recognizes an innovative and impactful program implemented primarily by staff on campus. View all award recipients at the 2019 annual conference.

Health and Wellness Services staff present at conference

Many Health and Wellness Services staff members presented at the national American College Health Association conference. All presentations received positive feedback:
