Developing friendships in college can benefit your quality of life and create more opportunities to have fun. CU Boulder offers many programs, organizations and other ways to connect and build relationships. One way to make friends this semester is to get involved and find people with similar hobbies and interests.

If you don’t find your favorite hobby on our list, check out BuffConnect to find student organizations or start your own. Also, review the events calendar for upcoming events of all kinds.

Crafting and art

CU offers many ways to meet other makers and explore your creative side. Whether you are just starting or an expert, there’s a place for you to craft and connect.

Participate in a DIY Night offered for all levels. These events from the Center for Student Involvement are a great way to meet fellow crafters.
Join a student organization dedicated to creative arts, like CU Ceramics Club, Painting Pals or Crochet and Conversations.
Check out the CU Boulder Art Museum programs to attend hands-on events and connect with other artists and makers.

Sports and fitness

Whether you love watching or playing sports, you’ll find many ways to connect with others and pursue your passions. Athletes, fitness Buffs and fans can explore CU Boulder’s love of sports.

Sign up for an Intramural Sports league or try out for a Sport Club to join a team and compete in various sports sponsored by the Recreation Center.
Join a student organization focused on sports and fitness, like the Boulder Lifting Club, CU Boulder Ice Skating Club or Alpine Club at CU.
Check out classes, programs and events at The Rec.
CU Buffs football fans can attend the Student Gameday Huddle tailgates and football watch parties at The Connection this semester.

Games and gaming

CU Boulder has a large gaming community! Video game, trivia and board game enthusiasts can find various ways to meet fellow gamers and join in the fun.

Hang out at The Connection to have fun with ping pong, billiards, bowling, video games or board games.
Join a student organization focused on games and gaming, like CU Bridge Club, Boulderite Chess Club or CU Gaming.
Check out campus events like trivia nights, gaming tournaments and more.

Outdoor adventures

Boulder is the perfect place to explore the great outdoors. From hiking and climbing to skiing and mountain biking, you’ll meet new people and find new adventures.

Check out the Adventure Resource Center for resources to plan your next adventure, including personalized recommendations, camping meal ideas, equipment rentals and guidebooks.
Join a student organization dedicated to outdoor sports, like Boulder Freeride, Caving Club or CU Mountain Biking.
Sign up for a group trip or outdoor class with Outdoor Pursuits. Available courses and trips include fly fishing, kayaking, indoor climbing and so much more.

Music and entertainment

Whether you are a musician, comedian, dancer or performing arts fan, CU Boulder offers many opportunities to connect with other Buffs while you enjoy live performances or hone your skills.

Attend a concert, recital, dance performance, film screening or other event offered by Program Council or CU Presents.
Join a student organization focused on entertainment or performing arts, like Boulder Film Buffs, Buffoons or CU Rave Club.
Sign up for a dance class at The Rec. Classes include ballet, contemporary dance, Afro-Latin dance, femme hip hop and country swing dance. Classes are open to all fitness and experience levels.

Social justice, advocacy and activism

Many CU Boulder students are passionate about social justice and improving the world. Whether you care about climate justice, racial and gender equality or another vital issue, you can find a like-minded community.

Check out the Volunteer Resource Center (VRC) for opportunities to volunteer on campus or in the local community. The VRC offers one-time, short-term, long-term and group projects.
Join a student organization focused on social justice and activism, like Vegan Justice League, Students Against Unjust Imprisonment or New Era Colorado.
Get involved with the Environmental Center by becoming a Sustainable Buff, joining the Environmental Board or downloading the AWorld app.
Connect with the Center for Inclusion and Social Change and attend the Ignite Social Justice & Leadership Conference on Oct. 21 in Kittredge Central.
