On Saturday, October 13, CU Boulder Department of Theatre and Dance hosted the one-year anniversary performance of The Non-Binary Monologues Project in the Loft Theatre. Woodzick acted as host and performed two monologues, and the rest of the non-binary and gender non-conforming cast of six was made up of CU students, Naropa students and community members. There were approximately 100 students, faculty and community members in attendance.
The performance lasted approximately an hour and was very well received! At the end of the event, we handed out casting inclusivity language crafted by Kevin Kantor and Emily Tarquin for the Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, which read "“In reference to the character descriptions below—most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. But however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities. Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide.”
The handout also included a link for a free download of the first issue of New Theatre Magazine, which features interviews with playwrights who have submitted pieces for The Non-Binary Monologues Project. Overall, an extremely successful event!
