The University of Colorado Student Government is pleased to announce preliminary results of the spring 2016 elections. The new Executives are: Madalena DeAndrea, Marcus Fotenos and Colton Lyons of Revolution, who won preliminary election with 2,253 votes, or 45 percent. Preliminary results show CUSG Representative-at-Large seats were won by: Alec Havey (2,077 votes), Gail Hall (2,053), Joshua Cunningham (2034) and Harrison Leeds (1920), all of Revolution.

Turnout was 16.7 percent, with 4,812 votes, a big increase over last spring’s turnout of 3.31 percent.

The Arts and Sciences Student Government (ASSG) held elections along with CUSG. Turnout for ASSG was 8.19 percent, with 1,382 votes cast. The preliminary results show that the two new Co-Executives are: Jason Evans (771 votes) and Anna Todd (762 votes), both of Revolution. ASSG will have four new board representatives: Sean Anderson of Revolution (780 votes), Paige Segall of Revolution (753 votes), Neil Rexroth of Revolution (721 votes) and Xinyu Liu of Ally (509 votes). ASSG allocates funds to student groups and represents students in the College of Arts and Sciences.

The deadline for submitting complaints about the elections is Tuesday, April 12, at 5 p.m. If no complaints are filed, the election results will become final and the new Representatives-at-Large will be sworn in at the Legislative Council meeting on April 21. If any complaints are filed, the final results will be delayed until those complaints have been dealt with.

Both voter turnout and interest in running for offices in CUSG were way up over the previous few elections. This election was hotly contested, with three tickets running for the CUSG Executive positions and two tickets running for the Representative-at-Large seats and for Arts & Sciences Student Government positions. The current CUSG Executives and all of the candidates have worked diligently to increase interest in student government at CU and to promote greater involvement among students.

Thank you to all the candidates for your hard work during this election! CUSG would also like to thank Student Voices Count for co-hosting the Candidate Debate and Town Hall, along with all the campus staff and faculty who supported the elections and made accommodations for voters and candidates. Special thanks also go to the Engineering Center, Wolf Law, Student Recreation Center and the University Memorial Center for hosting campaign and polling station tables.
