All current CU Boulder students, faculty and staff have access to a free public safety smartphone app (Lifeline Enterprise) featuring two ways for users to call for help in case of an emergency.

LifeLine Features:

  • The app has a button on the screen of the smartphone that allows you to press and hold it when you encounter a threatening situation. When you lift your thumb from the screen, a timer begins counting down to allow you to disarm the alert before it is sent. If you do not disarm the alert, you are contacted by the LifeLine Enterprise dispatch center who will validate the alert and call the police department with your location if needed.
  • A second feature allows you to set a specific amount of time for an activity, such as walking home from class or going on a run. If you do not deactivate the app before the specific amount of time has expired, an alert will be triggered and LifeLine Enterprise will attempt to contact you and validate the alert. If they are unable to make contact with you, they will contact the local police department and provide your last known location.
  • LifeLine Enterprise allows you to enter three or more “lifelines” in your profile. These “lifelines” will be notified only when LifeLine Enterprise determines the alert to be real and that you are are in danger. So when they call the local police department, an alert is sent to your “lifelines” providing them with a notification of trouble, your last known location provided by your mobile phone, and contact information for your local police department for that “lifeline” to contact. If you enter your code after you realize that you triggered an alert inadvertently, the “lifelines” also will get a second notification stating that you are safe.

Download the app:

  1. To download the app, use your phone and go to the LifeLine Response webpage, enter your phone number, and they will send you a text that will link to your app store to download.
  2. Once you have the app, open it on your phone and and use your Identikey@colorado.edu email address and select University of Colorado Boulder from the list.

The Lifeline company has two versions of their mobile safety app. One is for private citizens who have to pay for it on their own, while the other is for universities and corporations to purchase for their community to use free. The latter is the one that CU Boulder students, faculty, and staff should download. Be sure to search the app store for Lifeline Enterprise.
