Parker Named Volleyballmag.com Freshman All-America Honorable Mention

BOULDER – The accolades continue for Colorado volleyball freshman Sterling Parker as she was named to the 2019 Volleyballmag.com Freshman All-America Team honorable mention.
 
Parker, who was also named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman squad earlier in the month, continues a run of three-straight Buffs on the list, joining Brynna DeLuzio who was a first team selection in 2017 and Anyse Smith who was a 2018 second team selection.
 
The freshman from Martinez, Calif., started every match for the Buffaloes at right side where she was second on the team with 253 kills, the fourth-most in the rally scoring era for a freshman in CU history. She was also second on the team with a .270 hitting percentage and second with 87 total blocks.
 
Washington State's Magda Jehlarova was named the AVCA Freshman of the Year and was the only Pac-12 representative on the 14-player first team. The Pac-12 had six more people including Kamaile Hiapo (Ariz., L), Kendall Kipp (Stan, OH), Hannah Pukis (WSU, S), Pia Timmer (WSU, OH), Zoe Weatherington (Utah, OH) and Emilia Weske (USC, OH) to bring the total to eight representing. Nebraska's Madi Kubik was named the Volleyballmag.com National Freshman of the Year.
