When it comes to innovation and influencing change at CU Boulder, it’s important that students are a part of the process. Student input and feedback ensures that we are offering the appropriate support, services and programs for our Buffs to thrive.
Students have some options to help guide decisions that affect our campus community. Here are some ways you can get involved and use your voice this year.
Join the Dean of Students Leadership & Values Council
In addition to sharing ideas, counsel and feedback regarding issues that affect the student body, members of the Dean of Students Leadership & Values Council also engage in leadership development and mentorship opportunities.
The Dean of Students Leadership & Values Council meets on the second Thursday of each month from 5 - 6:30 p.m. Learn more about becoming a member.
Vote in CU Student Government elections
CU Student Government (CUSG) is the official governing body of the more than 30,000 students at CU Boulder. CUSG is responsible for allocating over $30 million in student fees in order to serve the student body as effectively as possible.
The main prerogative of CUSG is to hear student input and use it for the betterment of your university. It is important to elect representation that accurately reflects the needs and wants of the student body, and the best way to ensure that is to vote in elections.
CUSG holds elections every fall and spring semester. You can vote in the fall 2023 elections from Nov. 6-10 through your Buff Portal. Learn more about elections and how to run in the spring by visiting CUSG’s website.
You can also be a part of CUSG’s Legislative Affairs Commission, which sorts through bills and city ordinances for the impact on students and deciding policies CUSG should be advocating for or against.
Participate on a student board or committee
Joining a student board or committee lets you help make decisions, advocate for your fellow Buffs and gain professional experience. Here are some opportunities to consider:
- Center for Student Involvement (CSI) Board: Develop programs and educational opportunities to enrich the campus experience for CU Boulder students.
- Cultural Events Board (CEB) aims to broaden cultural knowledge by supporting the voices of underrepresented and misrepresented groups on campus, thereby promoting student engagement with their platforms.
- The CUSG Finance Board is the board authorized by the CUSG Legislative Council to review quarterly and annual reports of student fee-funded cost centers.
- Distinguished Speakers Board (DSB) is a diverse board of students whose mission is to bring speakers of the highest caliber, who will intellectually stimulate the student body and the surrounding community.
- Environmental Center Board: Advocate for campus environmental policy, determine funding for innovative sustainability projects, get practical experience and more.
- Rec Center Board: Promote the improvement of the Recreation Center and the university community through planning and positive action.
- Senior Class Council: Keep seniors informed and involved while building pride, tradition and community among the graduating class.
- Student Health Board: Implement programs, provide information and connect students with resources to improve health on and off campus.
- UMC Board: Create policy, develop creative solutions to challenging issues and grow your leadership skills.
- Volunteer Resource Center (VRC) Board: Through policymaking, leadership and outreach, being part of the VRC Board can help you advocate for and provide services to meet campus and community needs.
From voting to participating in boards and committees, there are opportunities to get involved no matter your interests or schedule. I look forward to getting your input and advocating for you to meet the needs of our students.
