CU Boulder today announced the launch of a search for a new associate vice chancellor for public safety—and with it the creation of a new Division of Public Safety.

The new role will report to Chief Operating Officer Patrick O’Rourke. Associate Vice Chancellor for Health and Wellness Jessica Doty is chairing the search committee, with a goal of identifying a final candidate in early 2024.

The new AVC for public safety will oversee the Division of Public Safety, which will include the CU Police Department, Emergency Management, Flight Operations and a new office of threat assessment.

“The safety of our students, faculty, staff and campus community is paramount,” O’Rourke said. “The new AVC for public safety position elevates the progressive work we’ve been undertaking around campus safety in recent years within the campus structure to ensure continued progress and innovation.”

The new role will replace the AVC of Integrity, Safety and Compliance position being vacated by Dan Jones, who in September announced plans to retire on Jan. 31, 2024. Other units within ISC will shift to other divisions within Strategic Resources and Support. Digital Accessibility will join the Office of Information Technology. Internal audit functions will move to Finance and Business Strategy. And the compliance unit will join the COO’s office.
