Dear Graduating Student:
We are looking forward to your participation in the upcoming commencement ceremony and recognition ceremonies. At the commencement ceremony on May 9, the chancellor will officially confer degrees upon all graduating students. At the recognition ceremonies May 9–11, you receive individual recognition along with classmates in your college, school, department or program.
These are the top three things you need to know about the commencement ceremony:
Where to be When
7–8 a.m. Refreshments on Norlin Quad
Find your college or school via signage
8 a.m. Processional departs promptly from Norlin Quad to Folsom Field
8–8:45 a.m. Procession, security screening and student seating
Ceremony begins as soon as all students are seated
By 11 a.m. Ceremony concludes
Required attire
At the commencement ceremony, you will continue an age-old tradition by wearing the same caps, gowns, and hoods as generations of Buffs before you. Discover how to purchase regalia to prepare for commencement.
Stadium security
While in the procession to Folsom Field, you will pass through security. Leave any personal belongings that may trigger the metal detectors at home or with your guests. Any students who are visibly intoxicated or disruptive will be removed.
For further details for yourself and your guests, please read on!
Arrival and parking
We recommend arriving early to allow plenty of time to find parking on campus. Parking is free in all campus lots on the days of the commencement ceremony and recognition ceremonies, but it is limited. Accessible parking and drop-off locations, as well as wheelchair assistance, will also be available for guests.
For your guests
The gates to Folsom Field will open at 7 a.m. We recommend guests be in their seats by 8:15 a.m. to watch the student processional enter the stadium. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Accessible seating options are available in Folsom Field.
All guests will be subject to security screening and the clear bag policy. A limited number of lockers will be available for guests to use if needed. Be sure to review the list of prohibited items that aren’t allowed in Folsom Field.
Recognition ceremonies
Colleges, schools, departments and programs will hold recognition ceremonies May 9–11. Some ceremonies may require registration or an RSVP to attend. Be sure to check with your unit for specific event details.
Congratulations on nearing the completion of your degree from CU Boulder. Along with the entire campus community, we are incredibly excited to celebrate this milestone with you.
Sincerely,
The Commencement Office
