As I reflect on all we have accomplished together this year, I can’t help but always ask whether what we’ve done has contributed to the greater good of our community. This academic year, I believe firmly our university today is better than it was in August.

Since 1948, the Conference on World Affairs has been relevant to our times, the community and our university. Our vision at CU Boulder is to be a leader in addressing the humanitarian, social and technological challenges of the 21st century, and this conference certainly personifies that.

Time is one of the most precious commodities we have. The Office of Faculty Affairs, in an effort to promote the accomplishments of the faculty and look for ways to save time, has launched CU Boulder Elements (CUBE) and created a new version of the Faculty Report of Professional Activities (FRPA).

Like the cycles of the seasons, the university has its own rhythms. With the beginning of spring, I’m looking ahead to our next academic year.

CU Boulder Today spoke with Chris Ewing, assistant vice chancellor for the department of Planning Design & Construction, to learn more about the ongoing Space Utilization and Optimization Initiative to best support students and the university’s mission.

As you may be aware, the White House on Wednesday night rescinded previous guidance contained within a May 13, 2016, Dear Colleague Letter regarding transgender rights at K-12 and higher education campuses. This announcement does not alter existing federal or Colorado state law that provides discrimination protection for transgender people, nor will it change campus policies.

When we have a chance to shape change and guide this inevitable process toward strategic goals of our choosing, we do ourselves and our successors a huge service.
