Occupants of the new Center for Academic Success and Engagement (CASE) in the heart of CU Boulder’s Main Campus have begun moving in this week, with the Office of Admissions to start launching campus tours from the building this summer.
Construction crews have achieved substantial completion of the 114,000-square-foot building. While this clears the way for tenants to begin occupying CASE, as with any new construction, crews will continue over the coming weeks with interior finish work and building systems testing.
CASE opens as a gateway to campus that supports the academic and student experience from the time prospective students visit campus through their time at CU Boulder, to graduation and beyond.
Admissions will relocate key components of its campus visit programs to the building, including campus tour operations, while various other important academic and student programming will also call the building home.
Admissions is moving in this week along with the University Exploration and Advising Center, Veteran and Military Affairs, and the Office of Pre-College Outreach and Engagement. Other programs that support student success—such as Buff Techs walk-in tech support and a new accommodated testing center for students requiring extra time or a distraction-reduced environment for test-taking—will follow over the coming year along with the Faculty Teaching Excellence Program and Graduate Teacher Program. New centrally scheduled classroom space, meanwhile, will provide vital swing space as campus prepares to embark on critical renovations of legacy buildings like Education and Hellems Arts and Sciences.
Designed for flexibility in space, program and services over time, the building will also provide key temporary space for academic programs like the College of Music and the College of Media, Communication and Information (CMCI). The Music space will help accommodate the college while an addition to the Warner Imig Music Building is built, while the CMCI space will help accommodate the recent rapid growth of that program.
“The idea for the building has always been to create a space where academic quality, student success and engagement all intersect,” said Kevin MacLennan, assistant vice chancellor of enrollment management and executive director of Admissions. “Current students will thrive in innovative academic programming and have access to key student support services, while prospective students and their families will see our exceptional academic environment flourishing from the moment they first set foot on campus.”
Built atop the Euclid Parking Garage, CASE also includes conference rooms on the second and third floors, which can be booked by campus users, and a 250-seat auditorium on the fourth floor where Admissions will host multiple daily information sessions and campus tours for 34,000 prospective students and family members each year. Two top-floor terraces, meanwhile, feature majestic views of the Flatirons. Daily public tours of the new building are expected to start this summer, and will be announced at a later date.
Construction crews continue work on Euclid Avenue in front of CASE to install a raised crosswalk and utilities upgrades. That work is scheduled for completion by July 12.
