Interdisciplinary thinking bolsters innovation. That’s the concept behind the University of Colorado Boulder’s new nLab, a mobile hub that allows students to develop their entrepreneurial ideas through peer and mentor-based collaboration, sustainability resources and other tools.

Former CableLabs executive David Reed has joined the Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Program at the University of Colorado Boulder as a scholar in residence, the university announced today. In addition to teaching and conducting research with graduate students in ITP’s master's and Ph.D. programs, Reed will lead the development of a new research center to investigate the future of the newly forming broadband industry.

The Bryon R. White Center at the University of Colorado Law School will host its second annual Marshall-Brennan Moot Court Competition at the Wolf Law Building from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9.

The University of Colorado Law School announced today that it is hiring Brad Udall as director of the newly renamed Natural Resources Law Center, which will now be called the Getches-Wilkinson Center for Natural Resources, Energy and Environment.

Following the recent Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission hearing on creation of statewide regulations for groundwater sampling and monitoring near new oil and gas wells, the University of Colorado Boulder will host an informational workshop on Monday, Nov. 26, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Wolf Law Building.

The University of Colorado Boulder’s annual Diversity and Inclusion Summit will feature a variety of sessions for students, faculty, staff and community members from Nov. 13-15. All events are free, open to the public and on the Boulder campus.

A new startup company that sprang from the University of Colorado Boulder this year is a Grand Challenges Exploration winner, an initiative funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Psychology and neurosciences department Associate Professor Don Cooper, co-founder and chief science officer of Mobile Assay Inc. of Boulder who developed the technology in his laboratory at CU’s Institute for Behavioral Genetics, will pursue an innovative global health and development research project titled “A Lab on Mobile Device Platform for Seed Testing.”

CU system news release DENVER – Six University of Colorado faculty members will be named Distinguished Professors, the most prestigious honor for faculty at the university. Each year, the recognition goes to faculty members who demonstrate exemplary performance in research or creative work, a record of excellence in classroom teaching and supervision of individual learning, and outstanding service to the profession, university and its affiliates.

On Oct. 10, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in a case that reconsiders affirmative action in university admissions. In Fisher v. University of Texas, the plaintiff is a white woman who says she was denied admission while less-qualified minority applicants were admitted. When the court last considered the issue in 2003, it re-affirmed that public colleges and universities could consider race as one of many factors in making admissions decisions.

More than 75 students and dozens of alumni of the University of Colorado Law School will teach a lesson on the Fourth Amendment in more than 100 high school classrooms throughout Colorado the week of Sept. 17- 21 in recognition of Constitution Day. Constitution Day is a national event that annually commemorates the Sept. 17, 1787, signing of the United States Constitution.
