Web Express Update - Google Analytics 4 Migration
Your website has been identified as having a Google University Analytics (UA) account assigned to it. Starting July 1, 2023, Universal Analytics will stop processing data, and Google Analytics 4 (GA4) will be the only Google Analytics option. If you want to continue to use Google Analytics on your website, the steps below will help you begin migrating to GA4 and show you how the new GA4 property will be applied to your website. The good news is Google’s GA4 setup assistance in your current account makes that pretty straightforward.
To keep analytics on your website, you will need to follow these steps:
- Step One: Create a new Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property
If you have not done so already, you should create a GA4 property using the GA4 setup assistance found in your current Universal Analytics account. Be sure to review Step Two for important data settings to change during this process. If you have already created a GA4 property, go to Step Two to check and reset your GA4 account data settings.
- Step Two: Check Your GA4 Data Settings
There are a few important settings you will need to review and set in creating a GA4 property:- Data Sharing Settings: You must customize your data sharing settings at setup
- Data Processing Terms: Review and accept data governance for GDPR/CCPA
- Activate Google Signals: Session data for cross-device metrics
- Turn on Enhanced Measurement: Provides more user interaction data with web content
- Data Retention: By default this is set at 2 months; we recommend the max of 14 months
- Step Three: Submit Your GA4 Account to Us
This is for websites on the Web Express platform only. Use the GA4 Migration Form to submit your GA4 property to the Web Express team. The GA4 properties will be added and implemented through a platform update to all websites on Web Express starting June 1. You will not see data in your GA4 property until this update is complete.
This first phase is focused on having existing University Analytics users create a GA4 property and submit to the Web Express Team to apply to your websites. You will receive updates in late May on the scheduled dates when all GA4 Properties will be applied to your websites.
The Web Express team will continue to share additional details around GA4, Data Storage and Google Tag Manager solutions over the coming months after applying GA4 Properties by June 30.
