This course is an introduction to digital photography, including digital capture, post-processing, and project development. You will learn the basics of shooting with a DSLR camera, including exposure, composition, and simple lighting techniques. You will be guided through a foundational editing workflow using Adobe Photoshop, Camera Raw, and Bridge. The course will conclude in a final series of images exploring a community or personal theme of your choice. Each week will include two distinct topics and corresponding assignments, which will require you to provide constructive feedback via peer reviews in Canvas.
Meet Your Instructor
Britland Tracy
Britland Tracy is an artist and educator from the Pacific Northwest whose work engages photography, text, and ephemera to observe signifiers of interpersonal connection and discord. She has published two photo-books, Show Me Yours and Pardon My Creep, and exhibited at the Griffin Museum of Photography (Winchester, MA), Davis Orton Gallery (Hudson, NY), Rule Gallery (Marfa, TX, and Denver, CO), Redline Contemporary Art Center (Denver, CO), the Lucie Foundation (Los Angeles, CA), the Photographic Center Northwest (Seattle, WA), the CU Art Museum (Boulder, CO), and Understudy Arts Incubator (Denver, CO), among other experimental and collaborative spaces. Recent artist residencies include the Byrdcliffe Guild in Woodstock, NY, and Walkaway House in North Adams, MA. She holds a BA in French from the University of Washington, a Certificate of Fine Art Photography from the Photographic Center Northwest, and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Media Arts Practices from the University of Colorado, where she currently teaches photography remotely while living and making in Marfa, Texas.
