Who They Are

By the function of their role, a Campus Security Authority (CSA) are University Official(s) (Student Leader, Employee, Affiliated Contractor, etc.) recognized by the Department of Education and designated by CU Boulder, that are federally required under the Clery Act to report all crimes to the University that are reported to them. You may be designated as a CSA if any of the functions of your role fall under one of these categories:

  1. All members of CU Boulder Police (CUPD) and Residential Security Officers (RSOs)

  2. Individuals responsible for campus security, including student and professional employees, as well as any contracted security personnel

  3. Officials of the institution with significant responsibility for student and campus activities

  4. Other administrative personnel who may straddle these groups

If you have not been notified that you are a CSA and you believe that you may fall under one of the above categories, please reach out to the Clery Compliance Officer.

Some specific units and employees on campus are NOT designated as a CSA by the nature of their role and function of responsibilities. Some of those units include: Office of Victim Assistance, Counseling and Psychiatric Services, Faculty & Staff Assistance Program, Etc.

What They Do

All CSAs are required to report Clery Act crimes that are reported to them. These individuals are understood to be trusted contacts at the University and have an obligation to report these crimes, so the University can offer support, resources, issue timely warnings and emergency notifications, as well as publish an Annual Security & Fire Safety Report to our campus community and interested public.
