"The certificate brought me in close proximity with the Latin American Studies Center. I was fortunate to be part of a research project through the Center based on how National Geographic portrayed (and continues to portray) the environment and indigenous peoples in Mexico. The center offers funding opportunities to do research abroad ... I would highly recommend it!" - Logan Schwanz, Biochemistry Major

"LAMS 1000 is the first class I've ever taken that has a unique approach to exploring dynamic topics over a broad range of Latin American history. This uniqueness came from an exploration of different sociological perspectives that were from DIVERSE authors and mindsets. As a student I was allowed to come up with my own beliefs through the lens of decolonized sociological structures. And to me that is an IRREPLACEABLE type of education. From a simple introduction class I am a better global citizen." - Maya Palmer, first year student

"The Latin American Studies Certificate was an incredible way to enrich my studies at CU and to prepare myself for working with Latinx communities in my career as a bilingual speech pathologist. Prior to enrolling in the certificate, I had a strong foundation in the Spanish language, but a minimal understanding of Latin American and Latinx issues with respect to historical, economical, and societal frameworks. After having graduated with the LASC certificate, I am well versed in these issues and will be able to apply this knowledge to my career moving forward. The interdisciplinary focus of the certificate encouraged me to take courses outside of my major, which happened to be some of the most valuable I took while at CU Boulder. The introductory course, LAMS 1000, provided a foundational understanding of Latin American and Latinx issues that extended to my participation and understanding of the issues in other courses taken for the certificate. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with my choice to enroll in this certificate, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to expand their knowledge of Latin American Studies while at CU." - Laura Peterson, Double Major in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences and Linguistics

"This is such a valuable and crucial space for those involved in Latin American scholarship. The events, discussions, and activities organized by the center have allowed me to learn about the important research, teaching, and service taking place throughout the university, and in the field in general. Thanks for making this possible!"

"Your support, both academic and as a cultural circle, is timely and appreciated in a time when being Latinx in the US has been deemed inadequate."

"The LASC funding for pre-dissertation research (summer 2019) helped me put together a strong proposal for NSF-- thanks so much!"
