Through a generous gift from Martha Manier, LALSC is offering funds to support research related travel for one graduate student in the Arts & Humanities. The grant is intended to support research in Latin America in literature, art, and history. The grant award is $1500.

 

Eligibility

Any graduate student (M.A., M.F.A., or Ph.D.) conducting research in Latin America in the Arts & Humanities is invited to apply. Applicants should submit a proposal describing their research and the importance of travel to it.

Types of Projects funded This grant is intended to support research in literature and the arts, including art history. The proposed project should contribute directly to the applicant’s work on a master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation, and the need for travel should be clearly justified. The focus should be on primary research. Conference travel will be given lower priority.

Award Criteria

1. Overall quality and merit of the proposal.

2. Importance of the proposed travel to the student’s research.

3. Feasibility of the project.

The proposal should clearly address the following criteria:

1. The nature and intent of the applicant’s research.

2. How travel supports the applicant’s research, and where the applicant will go.

3. How the research will be carried out. Examples may include visits to archives or museums, interviews, or field research.

4. Time frame for work supported by the grant.

5. Summary of prior work done.

6. A short budget for the project, including any additional sources of funding if applicable.

Upon completion, the recipient will be expected to give a short research presentation to the LALSC community.

The recipient of the award will be announced March 22.
