Notes from the Class of 1992

This year, Linda Tegarden (PhDBus) was conferred emerita status at the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech. She joined the faculty in 1994, and made contributions in her work on technology innovation. She lives in Blacksburg, Virginia. 

Combining hospitality expertise and design savvy, Amy Sharpiro Morris (Econ) founded her own design firm in 2019. The Morris Project, based in Brooklyn, New York, helps hospitality professionals think holistically about strategy and design. 

Karl Gopsill (Geog) of Castle Pines, Colorado, has been promoted to director of IT shared services at Dish Network in Englewood, Colorado. In his new role, Karl brings his interests and expertise from CU Boulder and his MBA from Florida State University to implement strategies and solutions for Dish. He will have more than 100 IT professionals reporting to him.

In March, the University of Notre Dame Press published Festive Enterprise: The Business of Drama in Medieval and Renaissance England by Jill P. Ingram (Engl). Jill is associate professor of English at Ohio University. 

Anesthesiologist Cyrus Mirshab (Econ; MD’98) went to the Los Angeles area in February 2021 to help Southern California Kaiser Permanente with its COVID-19 treatment efforts in ICU units. He spent a week working with Operation Helping Hand from the Colorado Permanente Medical Group.

Phillip DeLeon (MElEngr; PhD’95) celebrated his 25th year as an electrical engineering professor at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. Currently, he serves as associate vice president for research. 

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) published Clean Energy Innovators: NREL People Working to Change the World, a softbound book written by NREL’s Ernie Tucker. The book, which can be downloaded online for free, tells the stories of NREL’s people and the technologies they’ve advanced to help confront the climate crisis. The book features several CU alumni including catalyst researcher Kim Magrini (PhDChem’88), hybrid electric vehicles researcher Rob Farrington (PhDMechEngr’92), battery system researcher Matt Keyser (MechEngr’91) and Olympic biathlete Tim Tetreault (MechEngr, MS’04).

Composer, sound practitioner, land artist and photographer Paul Rudy (MMus’92) was scheduled to participate in the Composing in the Wilderness program in Alaska in June. Paul and five other composers were selected to spend 10 days exploring Alaska’s backcountry. The composers will create new wind ensemble works inspired by the trip to premiere with top university ensembles in Nebraska, Michigan and Texas in 2024. Paul — a Guggenheim, Rome Prize and Fulbright fellow — has climbed all 54 of Colorado’s 14,000-foot peaks. He is the Curators’ Distinguished Professor and Coordinator of Composition at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory.

In January, Deloitte, an audit, consulting, tax and advisory service firm, named Melinda Yee (Acct’92) Houston managing partner. Melinda has worked at Deloitte for more than 30 years. Prior, she served as Deloitte’s central region risk and advisory leader and as its Houston risk and advisory leader. Melinda also serves as a board member for Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas, is a member of the energy transition committee for the Greater Houston Partnership and is audit committee chair, director and trustee at the CU Foundation. She lives in Houston, Texas.
