Compassion in Action

Compassion creates a deep connection to our shared humanity. It enhances our sense of inner well-being and motivates us to take outward action. By cultivating compassion in our lives, we can create a ripple effect of positivity, kindness, and understanding.

To that end, The Renée Crown Wellness Institute is excited to announce a series of events that revolve around the theme of Compassion in Action this year. These events aim to delve into the various ways in which compassion can significantly contribute to the overall wellness of our communities.

At the Crown Institute, we are committed to studying and sharing compassion practices that support the inner resources of young people, educators and parents contributing to a lifetime of wellness. We firmly believe that by promoting compassion, we can be part of transformative change.

What is Compassion?

  • Awareness and recognition of suffering

  • Feeling of concern for and connection to the one who is suffering

  • Desire to relieve that suffering

  • Willingness to respond or take action

Compassion & Dignity for Educators

The Compassion & Dignity for Educators Project brings together Crown Institute researchers and practitioners, PK-12 educators, and Compassion Institute contemplative experts. From these many sources of expertise, we are designing and studying programs and practices to support educators in cultivating compassion and dignity in schools.

Our programs — and the research and design behind them — have shown us that the intentional cultivation of compassion enables educators to not only become leaders of positive change, but also gain skills that improve their own wellness and wellbeing.
