Jazmyne Peters

Dr. Jazmyne Peters received her bachelors of science degree from Colorado State University, and attended the Counseling Psychology program at the University of Denver where she earned her masters in Counseling and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology.  She completed both her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) before transitioning to Embedded Therapist for the College of Arts and Sciences and Multicultural specialist at the University of Colorado at Boulder’s CAPS. Dr. Peters has worked with a variety of communities including high schools, community mental health centers, college counseling, and forensic sites. She has special clinical and research interests working with marginalized identities, specifically Black identified people suffering from depression, anxiety, issues related to identity development, and issues related to race and racism. Dr. Peters has experience in education teaching several courses related to multiculturalism and therapeutic cultural competency and healing, including “Diversity of Healing” an undergraduate course co-created by Dr. Peters in an effort to teach students about the nuances of power, privilege, race and oppression. Her research has focused on racism and racialized stress and trauma in the Black community, and she completed her dissertation entitled Black Minds Matter: A Phenomenological Inquiry Examining the Prevalence of Racial Trauma Among Black Doctoral Students. Dr. Peters has created several workshops geared toward addressing diversity, equity and inclusion in institutions including identity development and awareness, micro aggressions, survival for People of Color in predominately White spaces, and understanding the nuances of White Supremacy culture. She is currently a Research Associate at the Renee Crown Wellness Institute for the mind body voice study.
