Confirm 2023 Filing Requirements

It's in your best interest to complete this and any other to-do items from the Office of Financial Aid as soon as possible. In most cases, we need tax documentation before we can move forward in processing your application.

Step 1: Review IRS Filing Requirements

The information you provided on your FAFSA (or supporting documents) indicates that you or your parents are required to file a 2023 tax return. Please review the filing requirements, and then proceed to step 2.

Step 2: Send Us your Tax Information

If you are required to file:

Please make sure your family has filed taxes. Within 3 weeks of filing online, the tax filer can get a Tax Return Transcript (TRT)from the IRS online, which may take up to 10 business days.

If you cannot get a Tax Return Transcript, you may submit a signed 1040 as long as you do the following:

  • Submit all pages of the 1040, including schedules 1, 2 and 3
  • Write the Student ID (what's this?) on each side of every page, and
  • It must be signed by the tax filer, or the tax preparer must provide his or her name and SSN, EIN or PTIN.

If you or your parents filed an amended tax return, we also require the IRS Form 1040X.

You can submit tax documentation using our secure document upload or by mail or in person. Make sure to include student name and ID number on all documents you submit.

If you are not required to file:

If you or your parents are not required to file an income tax return for 2023, please complete one of the following:

Tax Extension Filers: If you or your parents filed for a tax extension, please submit a copy of your 4868 IRS Tax Extension form or documentation from the IRS that confirms approval for extended filing or non-filing (dated after Nov. 21, 2024).
