AI Steering Team

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the focus of many conversations and activities on our campus spanning academic, research, and administrative operations. The Office of Information Technology seeks to bring coordination to these pursuits to allow for knowledge sharing, education, best practices, and awareness of these activities. Additionally, it aims to ensure students, faculty, and staff can leverage the power of AI while also ensuring responsible use and data stewardship.

In order to provide coordination and thoughtful implementation of AI at CU Boulder, Marin Stanek, along with Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Massimo Ruzzene and Vice Chancellor and Senior Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Assessment Katherine Eggert, have formed a campus-wide AI steering committee. This committee will have representation from research, teaching and learning, and administrative and operational disciplines within our campus and assist with the creation of resources and guidance to campus users as well as the formation of an AI community of practice.

The vision for this webpage is to serve as an AI landing page that will be a hub for CU Boulder’s AI activities, resources and guidelines as well as highlight how CU Boulder researchers are driving the field of AI forward to further the public good. This page will continue to evolve to account for changes in AI and CU Boulder rulings on AI.

Artificial Intelligence Community of Practice

The CU Boulder AI community of practice will be comprised of staff and faculty across many disciplines that have interest or expertise in the field of artificial intelligence. Participants in the community of practice are not expected to have any specific or previous knowledge of AI, only a motivation to improve the ways AI is used within our campus and in higher education.

The AI Community of Practice’s role will include:

  • Identifying campus resources and initiatives
  • Contributing to campus AI norms and best practices
  • Establishing campus guidelines and policy in the disciplines of research, teaching, learning and operations, as well as data management

To join the community of practice, please request to be added to the Microsoft Teams channel

Future Campus Events and Initiatives

Through the development of the AI steering team and Community of Practice, we anticipate the coordination of future on-campus and virtual events promoting the responsible use of AI across research, teaching and learning, and operational uses. Check back here often for events such as an AI showcase, AI townhalls, workshops, and more. If you have a proposal for a campus AI event, please join our community of practice to coordinate.
