Artificial Intelligence derives from a branch of computer science that aims to create machine functionality with the ability to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. With the recent explosive growth of AI development and availability of AI-powered tools, CU Boulder recommends campus users keep in mind the many facets of consideration with this ever-changing, cutting-edge technology. With any AI use, users should reference the university’s policies and guidance regarding data classification and compliance, information security, privacy, copyright implications, and academic integrity.  


To provide coordination and thoughtful implementation of AI at CU Boulder, Chief Information Officer Marin Stanek, Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Massimo Ruzzene, and Vice Chancellor and Senior Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Assessment Katherine Eggert, are forming a campus-wide AI steering committee.
