City and County of Broomfield Proposal
Developing a Local Government Energy Reduction Roadmap
Project Lead:

Camile Pollan, Community Sustainability Manager
Executive Summary:
Earlier this year, Broomfield’s City Council passed Resolution No. 2020-169, which approved a GHG reduction goal similar to the State of Colorado’s: (30% reduction by 2025, 60% by 2030, 80% by 2040, 90% by 2045 and 100% by 2050). An all-volunteer committee (Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability, or ACES) is led by Broomfield’s full-time Community Sustainability Manager, in conjunction with selected City Councilmembers and key staff. This ACES group is tasked with developing and implementing the GHG Reduction Roadmap, focusing on energy, waste and transportation. Critical elements of building a realistic yet ambitious plan will include extensive community engagement, best practice research, data analysis, and coordination with regional sustainability stakeholders. ACES will engage a subcontractor to assist with fleshing out a Zero Waste Action Plan to address recycling, composing and waste management issues. Developing an aggressive, comprehensive energy savings strategy will be an important part of the overall GHG Reduction Roadmap.
Key words:
Emissions reduction, energy, waste management, transportation, urban resilience
